As part of the One APAC Transformation announced on 17 April 2024, the Liberty Group has decided to consolidate the two Hong Kong insurance entities, Liberty Specialty Markets Hong Kong Limited (LSMHK) and Liberty International Insurance Limited (LIIL).
Combining the businesses under one Liberty Group Hong Kong entity strengthens our capabilities to continue providing comprehensive services and solutions for our clients, locally and regionally.
In Hong Kong, this means LSMHK will transfer its entire general insurance business to LIIL (Proposed Transfer). For general insurance policies incepting on or before 11.59pm 1 January 2026 (Cut-off Date), LSMHK intends to submit an application to the Insurance Authority of Hong Kong (IA) for a statutory transfer. Subject to the approval of the IA, the insurance policies will be transferred from LSMHK to LIIL with a target effective date of 1 April 2026 or such other date as the IA shall approve (Transfer Date).
For general insurance policies issued by LSMHK after the Cut-off Date, they will not be covered by the statutory transfer. These policies will be transferred by novation, with a novation clause included in the terms and conditions of the contracts. By accepting the terms and conditions stipulated in the insurance contract, policyholders agree to the contract's novation to LIIL.
General insurance policies governed by a law other than Hong Kong will not be covered by the statutory transfer. These policies will be transferred by way of novation. We will contact you to have your policy novated to LIIL before the Transfer Date.
You can be assured that the Proposed Transfer will not affect your rights and benefits under your policy and you will continue to enjoy the same rights and benefits with LIIL.
